Organic Waste Shredder

September 10 2025

An organic waste shredder is a device specifically designed to shred various perishable, hydrocarbon-containing organic materials (such as kitchen waste, agricultural waste, and livestock and poultry manure). Its core function is to reduce volume and shred the material, laying the foundation for subsequent resource utilization processes such as composting, biogas power generation, and biomass fuel processing.

Core Working Principle of an Organic Waste Shredder:

The organic waste shredder utilizes a shearing and extrusion method as its core shredding method. To address the characteristics of organic materials, such as high moisture content, mixed components (including fiber, bones, and peels), and prone to adhesion, a specialized blade structure and feed system are designed.

The specific process is as follows:

1. Feed Pretreatment: Organic waste (such as large pieces of kitchen waste and whole straw bales) is fed into the shredder chamber at a uniform speed via a belt conveyor or hydraulic pusher. Some models are equipped with a “debris removal screen” to pre-filter hard foreign matter such as metal and glass to prevent damage to the blades.

2. Crushing: The dual-shaft/single-shaft cutters** (mostly made of alloy steel, with spiral or claw-shaped blades) within the crushing chamber rotate at high speed relative to each other, tearing and cutting the material through shearing between the moving and fixed blades and compression between the blade shafts. For example, they can break whole corn stalks into 5-10 cm segments, crush large bones (such as pork bones) into smaller pieces, and break up clinging food waste (such as leftover rice and vegetable leaves) into uniform particles.

3. Discharge Control: The crushed material is discharged through an adjustable mesh screen at the bottom. The mesh size can be adjusted according to subsequent needs (e.g., composting requires 10-20 mm particles, biogas fermentation requires 5-10 mm particles). Any large particles that do not meet the standards are crushed again by the cutters to ensure a uniform discharge size. 4. Anti-clogging and Cleaning: Some models are equipped with a “reverse function” (when material clogs, the blade shaft rotates in the opposite direction to clear the blockage) and a “high-pressure spray system” (to flush out any remaining clogged material in the chamber after shredding, preventing odor and bacterial growth).

Key Technical Features of Organic Waste Shredders (Adapted to Organic Waste Characteristics)

The design of organic waste shredders specifically addresses the issues of “material clogs, corrosion susceptibility, and mixed materials.” Therefore, they incorporate the following core technical features:

1. Corrosion-Resistant and Wear-Resistant Blades: Made of high-quality stainless steel (304/316) or alloy tool steel, the blades undergo a carburizing and quenching treatment. They are resistant to corrosion from organic waste (such as acidic substances in kitchen waste and corrosive components in livestock and poultry manure) and can withstand wear from fibrous materials (such as straw). Their service life can reach 1-3 years (replacement is required depending on frequency of use). 2. Anti-sticking and Anti-clogging:

– The blades on the cutter shaft are arranged in a spiral pattern to reduce material entanglement.

– The inner wall of the crushing chamber is smooth, and some models are coated with an anti-stick coating (such as Teflon) to prevent material adhesion.

– Equipped with an overload protection function: When the current exceeds the set value (e.g., due to blockage by foreign objects or excessive moisture in the material), the machine automatically shuts down and issues an alarm to prevent motor burnout.

3. Environmentally Friendly Design:

– The sealed crushing chamber reduces the spread of odors generated during the crushing of organic waste.

– Some larger models are equipped with a deodorizing device (such as activated carbon adsorption or a biofilter) to further control odors.

– The machine body is constructed of waterproof and rust-resistant materials for easy cleaning and to prevent bacterial growth.
