Mattress Shredders Machine
Mattresses, as a typical “difficult-to-dispose-of waste,” contain a variety of materials, including metal springs, polyurethane foam, fabric, and a wooden frame. Traditional landfill disposal not only consumes large amounts of land, but also leads to soil and groundwater pollution due to the presence of flame retardants and volatile organic compounds. Mattress shredders, as the initial step in resource recovery, use hydraulic shearing and impact crushing technology to break down entire mattresses into mixed fragments smaller than 50mm in diameter, creating the basis for subsequent sorting.

In the sorting system, magnetic separators extract approximately 8% of the metal springs, and near-infrared spectroscopy sorters separate over 90% of the PET fabric. The remaining 30-40% high-calorific value components (mainly polyurethane foam and some fabric) become the core raw material for producing SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel)/RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel). This pre-treated material is further processed by a twin-shaft crusher to a particle size of 8-15mm, and after dust removal by a rotary screen, it enters a drying system to control moisture content below 15%.
The final SRF/RDF product has a calorific value of 18-22 MJ/kg, approximately 75% of that of standard coal, and can directly replace coal for co-firing in cement kilns or fluidized bed incinerators. Compared to burning raw waste, using SRF can reduce dioxin emissions by 60% and fly ash generation by 40%. EU countries have established mature SRF quality standards (e.g., CEN/TS 15359), requiring chlorine content below 1% and heavy metal content within specific limits, necessitating accurate composition monitoring systems in mattress processing lines.

This “mechanical pretreatment-component separation-fuel conversion” technology increases the resource recovery rate of used mattresses to over 75%, reduces processing costs by 280 yuan per ton compared to landfilling, and reduces carbon emissions by 1.2 tons. It provides an economically and environmentally sound solution for urban solid waste management.
