What types of waste are included in urban waste?

Municipal residual waste refers to the mixed waste that remains after initial sorting, collection, and processing. It has a complex composition and typically includes the following categories:

Organic waste

• Kitchen scraps: Leftovers, fruit peels, bones, vegetable roots and leaves from households and restaurants. This type of waste has a high water content, is easily decomposed, emits unpleasant odors, and breeds bacteria and pests.

• Garden waste: Dead branches and leaves, pruned branches, lawn clippings, and other items generated during urban landscaping maintenance. The amount of this waste varies seasonally, with higher volumes generated during the leaf-shedding season in autumn and winter and the lawn mowing season in spring.

What types of waste are included in urban waste?

Inorganic waste

• Waste paper: Newspapers, magazines, books, wrapping paper, and paper boxes that have not been effectively recycled. Heavily contaminated paper that is difficult to recycle also falls under the category of residual waste.

• Plastics: Various plastic bags, plastic film, disposable plastic tableware, plastic toys, and plastic packaging materials. Some plastic products that are contaminated or mixed with other materials are difficult to recycle and are often treated as residual waste.

• Glass: Broken glass bottles, glasses, window shards, etc. Glass products that are mixed with other impurities, have mixed colors, and are severely broken have low recycling value and will become residual waste.

• Metal: Rusted iron products, discarded small metal tools, mixed metal parts, etc. Metal waste that is difficult to separate and recycle due to corrosion, deformation, or mixing with other materials may also remain in the garbage.

Other Waste

• Used Electronic Products: Discarded mobile phones, computers, televisions, refrigerators, and other small electronic products. These products contain a variety of hazardous substances and complex electronic components. If not handled properly, they can cause serious environmental pollution, and recycling requires specialized technology and equipment.

• Sanitary Products: Used diapers, sanitary napkins, masks, etc. This type of waste is often contaminated and contains bacteria and viruses, making it unsuitable for recycling and difficult to compost.

• Cigarette Butts and Dust: Cigarette butts from smoking, as well as dust and dirt collected during cleaning. They have no recycling value and are usually disposed of with other residual waste.
